Women asked to compete in Cyber Security Challenge

Filed under: Cyber Security — Mark on June 12, 2012

Cyber Security Challenge is asking for women to get involved in its competitions which are taking place across the country. They could provide opportunities to women who are focused on developing their careers around technology, and who ultimately aim to land cyber security jobs.

They partner with the leading government and security organisations in the UK, and the competition is planning on seeking the top talent in cyber security, as well as nurturing aspiring hopefuls who can then develop their industry knowledge.

Contestants who impress in the series of assignments will be rewarded with prizes worth in the region of £100,000, which will include an opportunity for qualifications that will allow them to apply for cyber security jobs.

Other prizes include membership of a professional body such as the British Computer Society.

Hopefuls could receive bursaries to be used for computing courses at universities, as well as free cyber security training courses covering key modules, and professional resources and expertise.

Competition winners will be able to work alongside a professional creative team that will allow their idea to turn into a national marketing campaign, featuring on the website of Get Safe Online.

BT Security director of cyber and information assurance, Dr Bob Nowill, said:

“We believe that the combination of cyber experts and professionals supported by new talent identified by initiatives like the Cyber Security Challenge will help to strengthen and improve our technical defences.”

It is considered more important now than ever to make SMEs aware of cyber security, with a deepening threat to these businesses. Cybercrime is believed to be costing companies in the UK around £27bn per year.
