Threat Horizon 2014 is published

Filed under: Risk Management — Stephanie on April 12, 2012

IT security threats have been forecast to increase significantly over the next couple of years and companies that do not protect their businesses now may suffer many challenges in the future. These findings were revealed in the Threat Horizon 2014: Managing Risks When Threats Collide report which has been published by the Information Security Forum, an international organisation that is held as a major voice within the cyber security sector.

The report suggests that the conventional methods of dealing with security risks by those in information risk management jobs may not be the best solutions and that a business focused and long term approach would be more effective in managing risk. In order to reap the rewards afforded by cyber space and advancing technology, firms must look beyond the risks traditionally managed by those in IT security jobs, including aspects such as reputation management and all forms of technology.

The Global Vice President at ISF, Steve Durbin commented:

“While individual threats will continue to pose a risk, there is even more danger when they combine, such as when organized criminals adopt techniques developed by online activists. Traditional risk management is insufficiently agile to deal with the potential impacts from activity in cyberspace. While executives recognize the benefits and opportunities cyberspace offers, their organizations must extend risk management to become more resilient, based on a foundation of preparedness. We are advising our members that this is the year of resilience and to be prepared to move at the speed of a Tweet!”

For those looking to find information risk management vacancies, it makes sense to take heed of the report’s recommendations and to develop skills in a wide range of IT security areas.
