Sell out for CIPD’s HR conference

Filed under: Information Risk and Security — Mark on May 7, 2013

The transition to transformational from transactional people management practice is key to SME long-term performance. That will just be one among the numerous messages to be delivered in the inaugural dedicated conference of the CIPD for those who make HR decisions in SMEs. Those seeking risk management vacancies or other positions can expect a different feel to the recruitment process in the future.

The conference – expanding on a research report from the CIPD called ‘Achieving sustainable organisational performance through HR in SMEs’ – will emphasise innovative approaches designed to assist HR in moving to a strategic function from an admin one. It is believed this could sustain business expansion. The research identified key insights that apply to SME employees; it discovered that responses to challenges with people management, when driven by processes, may only offer short-term answers as a company expands. Additionally, businesses could miss out on an opportunity to provide support to the organisation’s longer-term goals.

CIPD Chief Executive Peter Cheese said about the conference:

“More than two-thirds of the UK’s workforce are employed by SMEs. They are the lifeblood of the UK economy and are vital for jobs, growth, productivity and innovation. And we’re pleased to see so many SMEs recognising that good people management is fundamental to their long-term performance and growth.”

The conference will include sessions presented by experts sourced from successful companies that have used HR practices to drive and expand their operations.

Some of the topics covered will include talent and recruitment development, legal compliance, people performance and reward management.
