Salary ranks no.1 priority among job seekers

Filed under: Cyber Security — Stephanie on September 10, 2012

UK job seekers rank a decent salary above all else when looking for any new role, says research from website Thirty five per cent of job seekers view salary as the most integral aspect, even above career prospects, implying that short term benefits are becoming increasingly valued over longer term career prospects in the current market. IT professionals, as well as those working in finance and admin, tops the list of those who regard salary as the main priority. So employers looking to fill cyber security jobs and risk management vacancies should take note of what is important among prospective employees.

The research puts salary down as an important factor for men, as 45 per cent say that earnings rank as top of their considerations. Women are more likely to find a job to progress their career, with 39 per cent seeking a role that offers long-term career prospects. Only a quarter of women regard salary at the top of their criteria. Head of Classified Sales and Recruitment, Matt Gregory, told OnRec:

“It’s perhaps a sign of the times that salary is currently so key for many UK jobseekers. We’d encourage all recruiters to think carefully about what sort of person they would like to employ and then tailor their package accordingly.”

The research further indicated that workers in the UK are looking more and more at their career to the degree that they are neglecting other parts of their life. Twenty seven per cent of men said that their jobs fitting around their lifestyle is an important factor.
