No redundancies on the horizon, say UK businesses

Filed under: IT Security — Stephanie on August 20, 2012

The UK is now in its third negative growth period in a row. However, most businesses in the UK are not intending to make any redundancies in the rest of the year, says a survey which saw 900 businesses take part. This bodes well for those seeking information security vacancies and risk management jobs, as they can continue their search without fear of the negative growth trend. The survey was conducted by Right Management.

81 per cent suggested there wouldn’t be any redundancies over the following six months, with only four per cent expecting to make substantial cut backs.

Right Management UK and Ireland director, David Miller, told On Rec:

“Companies appear to be staying resilient in the face of tough economic conditions and retaining staff, which is reassuring. However, this may be due to many companies having already made cuts and now operating in a stretched capacity.

“So while it is concerning to see the majority surveyed stating they lacked a workforce strategy, in our experience many companies are being more agile about how they use their people’s skills and knowledge but just don’t recognise this as workforce planning.”

41 per cent of those companies surveyed said they don’t make plans regarding their workforce and don’t have a strategy in that area. 23 per cent said that Human Resources has no part to play in their business strategy.

The international research into redundancy trends was conducted in this year’s second quarter in over 40 territories and countries. The trend data will be regarded as a barometer of activities and trends of the workforce.
