More than 60% of people are happy at work

A study by Capital Once has found that satisfaction ranks over salary for jobs in the UK. The finance firm won a prestigious award recently as one of the best workplaces in Europe and the UK, and as such could be seen as well placed to comment on the relationship between employees and their positions.

The findings showed that more than 60 per cent of UK employees are happy with their job, and one in five admitted to loving their current position. Job satisfaction proving so successful in the current job climate can only bode well for those seeking information security vacancies and other positions.

Employees in the capital are the happiest in the country, with over 70 per cent of workers in London admitting to liking their jobs. In contrast, North East workers are less likely than other others to be happy in their current post, with just 50 per cent of people in the area saying that they enjoy their present role.

The Capital One HR Director, Karen Bowes, said:

“We spend so much of our lives in the workplace, so it’s encouraging to see that so many people enjoy working and spending time with colleagues. Good employers recognise that their staff are their best asset and invest in creating positive working environments, empowering through trusted leadership and offering secondary benefits that support employees’ work life, well-being and interests.”

Figures released by the Government reveal how average wages have decreased since 2009. However, the research discovered that employees value their work, fellow employees and working times, over their salaries.
