Jobs at UK tech start-ups on the rise

Filed under: Recruitment General — Jonathan on May 21, 2013

Collaborating with Adzuna, the employment search engine, one of the UK’s tech start-up jobs fairs has disclosed figures that reveal there are a higher number of tech start-up jobs now than there have been previously in the UK. For those out of work with IT and internet skills, there has never been a better time to look for cyber security jobs, business continuity vacancies and information risk jobs, as well as other positions within the sector.

UK tech hubs have looked to fill 3,229 vacancies – an increase of 22% from last year. The capital leads the way with 34% of all start-up positions currently available. Second is Cambridge at 27%, followed by Brighton at 11% and Bristol at 8%.

The numbers further reveal the sectors in the UK that are being successfully targeted by start-ups, as they are growing and have a stronger need for a talented workforce. The leading sector was on-demand software with 15% of the demand. Next on the list were music, retail and ecommerce, and travel and holiday – each at 11%. Social and business management were at 10%.

Adzuna’s co-founder, Andrew Hunter, said:

“It’s clear from the data that more and more job seekers are choosing start-ups.

“The pay might not be quite as good, but the excitement of start-up life and chance to make an immediate difference are clearly enticing more and more bright minds into start-ups.”

The UK’s top start-ups for hiring include King, Mind Candy, Skyscanner and onefinestay.
