Job boom expected in South Yorkshire

Filed under: Recruitment General — Mark on November 6, 2012

The £65m investment that the Regional Growth Fund made into South Yorkshire will ensure that the region will evolve into a huge recruitment hub in the next few years, says one recruitment firm. So any budding professionals in the area looking to fill risk management jobs and information security vacancies in that time will have no shortage of opportunity.

It is expected that there will be upwards from 1,500 jobs created, according to statistics from the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership. It made the announcement earlier in the week that there will be a collaboration with a number of firms in the region in order to ensure that they are equipped with “robust plans for growth”.

The joint managing director of the firm issuing the data said that businesses will benefit from the move, but there is still more action needed to ensure that employers concentrate on a recruitment approach that emphasises skill, maximising their workforce’s longevity.

They told On Rec:

“Although this investment represents a huge opportunity for South Yorkshire businesses to expand their workforces and recruit new staff, my concern is that employers will invest in staff which provide short term solutions to long term problems.”

He went on to say that firms will have to make some concessions for the years ahead – if they want the investment to work in their favour within the next 10 or even 15 years – by recruiting additional staff with the skills necessary to take the company into the future.
