Growth expected in IT sector

Filed under: General,Recruitment General — Mark on August 14, 2012

Research has revealed that recruitment in the IT sector is expected to increase twice as quickly as other sectors until the year 2020 – and an anticipated 129,000 people will be required on an annual basis to fulfil the demand for telecom workers and IT services. This can only be good news for those who are about to enter the profession, or who are looking for further challenges in information security vacancies, CISSP jobs or other such positions within the industry.

It was discovered that there have been over 116,000 IT vacancies advertised in each quarter of 2011 compared to just 82,000 in each quarter of 2009.

One senior analyst shared his opinion of the results with On Rec. He said:

“Technology Insights 2012 shows how important IT and telecoms are for the competitiveness and economic growth of the UK. With IT employment set to grow at such a pace, it is vital that we continue to invest in the skills of those working in technology and create new routes for young people to enter exciting and challenging careers in the industry.”

The news comes after figures releases by a European Commission. It said that the UK expects to have a shortage of approximately 100,000 skilled people when they are in demand. The shortage across Europe expects to be as high as around 700,000, taking the UK numbers into account.

A managing director of one IT recruitment firm said that a number of businesses are meeting the challenge with government schemes in Birmingham and London designed to encourage IT investment.
