Facebook set to launch job board

Filed under: Business Continuity — Stephanie on July 16, 2012

It has been claimed by sources that Facebook is gearing up to increase competition with other networks, such as LinkedIn, as it will be aggregating job listings from third parties. Facebook will be launching the job board this summer and the job listings can only be searched by users of the social network. Facebook users may well expect to find business continuity vacancies, penetration testing jobs and more.

Although the sources say this doesn’t mean Facebook will be entering the recruitment market in a big way, it does pose an increased threat to professional networking websites such as LinkedIn, should they decide to take this project seriously.

Three of the job-listing companies that will be leveraging Facebook’s platform will have some involvement in the offering, including Wrok4Labs, JobVite and BranchOut. Some of the partners have told clients about the development, which could be seen in August. Facebook has no immediate plans to monetise the job board and it isn’t clear whether or not it intends to do so in the future.

A spokesman for Facebook said:

“We don’t comment on rumour and speculation.”

Representatives of Work4Labs, JobVite and BranchOut failed to respond immediately for comment.

“It doesn’t feel like a big effort that they’ve worked on for a long time,” said one source in the know. “It feels lightweight.”

It also isn’t clear whether Facebook will integrate the listings into its user’s news feed or whether they will exist solely in its own part of the site. The new site was created by a third-party web developer.
