Contractor market staying positive

Filed under: Information Risk and Security — Jonathan on August 8, 2012

Results from a Contractor Attitude Survey have revealed that the flexible workforce in the UK remains positive – despite working in a depressed economy. This can only be encouraging for those seeking information security contract jobs and other such vacancies.

The survey found more intriguing results, announced by one of the largest accountancy companies in the UK, SJD Accountancy. This comes after an in-depth survey, conducted in July, of its contractor client list of 11,000.

The 30 question survey offers an insight into today’s UK contractor market. The findings include important information for the clients as well as the contractors on subjects considered to be the most important, and will enable contractors to gain a firmer understanding regarding the community they work in.

Against a background of negativity concerning the economy, the survey discovered a high degree of enthusiasm in the contractor community – with the positivity of some responses far exceeding expectations.

Close to two thirds of those who responded were positive regarding the current condition of the contracting market, scoring it four out of six. This is an indicator of a high overall positivity level in the way that the contracting market is viewed as a whole. Two thirds rated five or more out of six on the way they felt about being a contractor.

Over 75 per cent of those surveyed made a conscious decision to opt for contracting, and 88 per cent said they are happy to be classed as a ‘committed contractor’, a clear indication that people view contracting as a long-term career.
