One of the most common current complaints from today’s business leaders is that they feel overwhelmed by regulation. They imagine themselves to be drowning in a sea of rules and regulations, some legally binding, some essential requirements to stay competitive, all of which need or must be met with compliance.
Whilst business leaders may well be willing to comply to industry standards, such as those set by the Financial Services Authority, for example, the compliance task can become rather a headache. In the long run, senior managers prefer to recruit compliance experts in to their organisations, and get them to do all the heavy lifting.
Compliance officers in large organisations are required to be across the latest legislation and standards updates from both government and independent bodies.
For instance, the ISO, or International Organisation for Standardization, produces a number of standards to which industries need to adhere, and these sets of standards frequently get updated. For instance, ISO 27001 deals with all aspects of information security. Meanwhile, a compliance officer, or manager, will need to be across the FOI (Freedom of Information Act), the DPA (Data Protection Act), the DPA (Data Protection Act), as well as a host of other rules and regulations.
The task is significant, and large organisations may well have a compliance team in place to handle the different compliance jobs in hand.
Here at Acumin, we act as a leading recruiter for compliance jobs – both advertising to prospective candidates, and managing the whole recruitment process.
