One per cent rise in UK employment index for April

Filed under: Cyber Security — Stephanie on June 10, 2012

The Monster Employment Index UK posted 140 pts in April, which was a one per cent increase when compared to its 138 pts in the same period for 2011. Information technology was among the sectors enjoying a growth in employment, so it is a good time for anyone seeking cyber security jobs and other vacancies within the industry.

Community, defence and public sectors increased by 18 per cent in April, which was helped by part-time and volunteer workers. Information technology, engineering and hospitality and tourism rose by 12 per cent, 13 per cent and 11 per cent respectively.

However, there were some industries that saw a decline, such as sports, leisure, arts and entertainment, which were down by 10 per cent, and management and consulting, as well as legal, falling by 10 per cent.

Geographically, internet job opportunities are seeing continual growth in the Midlands, with a slight decrease in London.

Monster UK & Ireland managing director, Julian Acquari, said:

“The Midlands continues to exhibit the most growth in the UK, which is very positive news for people in the area. On the other side of the coin, as the UK economy returns to recession it’s not surprising to see London experience a slight decline in online job opportunities.

“However it is not all doom and gloom for those living in the capital – or indeed the rest of the UK. There is growth across a wide range of sectors including IT, engineering and hospitality.”

The Monster Employment Index Europe has shown a year-upon-year growth of six per cent in April, compared to eight per cent the month previous.
